The people of Israel commemorate two-year remembrance of October 7th incident as Palestinian ceasefire negotiations continue
People have gathered throughout the country to remember the second anniversary since the Hamas-initiated attack on October 7th, 2023, as talks proceeded in the neighboring country over an end to the conflict in Gaza.
The incident led to more than 1,200 people dead and 251 others captured back to Gaza as captives. It was the most deadliest day for Jewish people since the Second World War.
Israel answered by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has killed over 67,000 people, according to the territory's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its figures are seen as reliable by the UN and other international bodies.
"Our bloodthirsty adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on Tuesday.
He also vowed to "realize all the goals of the war: the return of all the abducted, the removal of the Hamas government and the assurance that Gaza will never again present a risk to Israel".
Remembrance Gatherings Across Israel
The government authorities delayed state memorials until October 16th - after the completion of the religious holiday season - but ceremonies still occurred around the country on Tuesday.
A remembrance service for the loved ones of Israelis who died in the Hamas incident was conducted in Tel Aviv. Organized by the families themselves, it was televised on Israeli broadcast stations.
Some time earlier, a silent tribute was observed across the country.
Peace Discussions in Egypt
Meanwhile, Israeli and Hamas negotiating teams gathered in the Egyptian coastal city of the negotiation venue for a second day of third-party negotiations to examine the provisions of the proposal.
A high-ranking delegate involved in the discussions said that an night meeting of indirect talks started at 19:00 Cairo time.
The representative explained the morning session concluded without significant progress, because of disagreements over the suggested Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas wants to guarantee Israel does not resume fighting after the first phase of the arrangement.
He added that the negotiations are "challenging and have yet to produce any major advancement," but pointed out that facilitators are striving to narrow the differences between the both parties.
Key Matters in Negotiations
- An enduring ceasefire
- The exchange of the prisoners still detained by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
- The pullout of troops from Gaza
- Arrangements for assistance deliveries
- Future management of the area
Public Feeling
In Tel Aviv's public square earlier, 29-year-old Hagar - whose sibling endured the assault on the gathering, where 378 people were murdered and numerous more were abducted by Hamas fighters - told: "No location appears as home any longer and until each abducted person are released no one will have peace of mind."
"Once we see everyone home returned, we can feel relief anew. Then we can start to rebuild," she added.
Outside the prime minister's home in the capital, people gathered to demonstrate their backing for the loved ones of the hostages. Israel states 48 continue in confinement in Gaza, 20 of whom are thought to be alive.
Protester one woman remarked: "It's necessary do any agreement required for the abducted to come back home. But we really want promises that we will be safe."
Opinion polls now regularly indicate that about seventy percent of the population prefer the war to end in as payment for the release of the abducted.
Palestinian Conditions
At the location of the music event, mourners came together to honor the dead.
From that location, the noise of Israeli air strikes and explosions could be detected just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where local people said the severe Israeli shelling persisted.
In the urban center, bombardments were reported in the dawn of that day in the west side district, sector and locality neighbourhoods and in the eastern neighbourhood of the community, as well the settlement to the north-west.
"When the night arrives, the anxiety arrives with it," evacuated Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose teenage son was died by an Israeli bombing last year, shared.
"My family are terrified of the air strikes. All the night we are resting together, holding each other, notably my little child who rests his head on me throughout the night."
"Constantly we check the updates to see the situation. And I'm afraid that this halt will not be finalized and that the war will come back to us."
Humanitarian Situation
The healthcare center in the urban area said it had taken in the bodies of several people by the daytime, including three killed in an Israeli attack in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.
A different healthcare center in the south region of Khan Younis reported another two fatalities had been transported. An individual was killed by Israeli forces while looking for aid to the south, medics stated.
The region's health ministry reported twenty-five of the {territ
