The network's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Significant Renewal for Two More Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. In an era often characterized by bleakness, this show's earnestness found an audience and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who found the show and championed its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about observing this lovable family navigate their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing layer of irony. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
