Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
