Brian Eno Encourages Public Help to Propel Together for Palestine Song to UK Christmas No 1.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The project hopes to send support to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian artistic heritage.
An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Chart Upset"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a moment to support Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be incredible if that occurred, yes,” he commented. “I won't be completely disappointed if it fails to, festive releases are a thing unto themselves.”
Powerful Theme of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the version of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's resilient spirit.
“It occupies a very special place for many individuals,” Barghouti explained. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we want to live a dignified life that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Contributing Musicians
The track was produced following a solidarity show held in the autumn. Originally intended to be performed and recorded live, the performance was cut from the show due to scheduling overruns.
The impressive roster of performers appearing on Lullaby features a selection of well-known figures from the music world. All took part in the September show, which reportedly raised a substantial amount for humanitarian aid.
Production and Release
Lullaby was crafted by a team of music creators. The song showcases a combination of the traditional Arabic lyrics with freshly written English words.
The organizers behind the project have emphasized that their aim is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These resources will be allocated to Palestinian causes through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“We haven't set a rigid aim,” a spokesperson explained. “We aim for whatever we can get. Naturally, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The situation in the territory was characterized as its profound destruction, with a overwhelming percentage of buildings reportedly levelled or seriously harmed.
“In that context, a few million doesn’t make a massive dent. But I think what does make a difference is first of all raising awareness for this issue and demonstrating there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a video of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
